Jeff Lyth of the British Columbia Construction Safety Association and John Van Dyk, the owner of Canadian Cutting and Coring, both recently participated in the “Great Safety Debate” in Whistler, B.C. at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s Construction Leadership Forum.
Lyth and Dyk tackled issues such as changing attitudes towards safety in the workplace and how companies can implement safety practices effectively in their workplace.
Lyth said many organizations are reaching a plateau in using the current construct for safety, and approaches are needed to avoid stagnation, and Van Dyk said it is important not only to enforce safety but to instill a “safety culture” throughout the industry.
