There are way too many construction site accidents in the United States – and almost everyone of those could be prevented if some basic safety precautions were in place.
What are the types of personal protective equipment that are used for the safety of construction workers?
Some of the most basic personal protective equipment include –
• hard hats where there is a potential for objects falling from above, bumps to the head from fixed objects, or of accidental head contact with electrical hazards. Keep in mind that pursuant to OSHA guidelines – Hard hats need to be routinely inspected for dents, cracks or deterioration;
• lanyards and safety harnesses with available anchorage points;
• secure scaffolding with proper planking, guards and rails;
• when appropriate for the particular job – safety glasses, or face shields;
• work shoes or boots with slip-resistant and puncture-resistant soles;
• The right gloves for the job – for example: heavy-duty rubber gloves for concrete work; welding gloves for welding; insulated gloves and sleeves when exposed to electrical hazards.
Why aren’t all construction workers provided with proper personal protective equipment at construction sites?
• Unfortunately, it’s because many construction companies still value their profits over the safety of their construction workers.
• Shockingly, this is no different than some automotive car manufacturer looking to save some big money by using cheaper, unsafe parts in order to increase profits.
• There’s nothing wrong with a company trying to make money – but when it knowingly compromises the safety of its employees, its construction workers, its customers or the public – it’s just wrong and it needs to be held responsible in a Court of law.
• How are often are construction workers killed on the job?
The most recent Government Statistics show that 4,628 workers were killed on construction jobs in 2012 – on average, that’s 89 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths every day.
Those numbers include 748 Hispanic or Latino workers who were killed from work-related injuries in 2012– on average, that’s more than 14 deaths a week, or two Latino workers killed every single day of the year, all year long.***
These #’s are way too high. Construction companies must be forced to do a better job in protecting the safety of their employees.

you are looking for money. no
I am a construction worker. I was seriously injured in a construction site accident because my employer did not provide adequate gears for the job in question. I will never be able to go back to work again. Can I hold my employer responsible for my injuries?
