DOI Dispatch is a video series that discusses what DOI is working on – straight from the Commissioner, Mark G. Peters.
Construction is one of the most dangerous professions in New York City. Safety training is a fundamental and key element to mitigating danger. One such safety program is a 10-hour, certified training class by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which then issues cards to workers who have successfully completed the program. The training covers a variety of construction safety and health hazards, which workers may encounter on a construction site.
In this video, Commissioner Peters highlights a the safety problem of fraudulent cards and the initiatives DOI & its partners are implementing to help construction workers get the proper safety training they need. To continue promoting safe construction, DOI and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office together are hosting a Counterfeit OSHA 10 Card Exchange, where construction workers can turn in their fake cards for a free and legitimate OSHA 10 Construction Training Class, regardless of their immigration status. This exchange program begins on November 14th, 2016. For more information on this initiative, call DOI @ 212-825-2413.
