FIU Bridge Collapse LINDA FIGG Experimenting with Public Safety to get “Products to Market”?
Could this FIU Bridge Collapse be just Linda Figg, FDOT and FIU trying to get a new ‘’product to market”?
Linda Figg, has a history with using the public bridge structures as an experimental zone!
This video clips shows her history, as reported by herself, in this 2008 posted video.
FIU and Linda Figg were arm and arm with this design and she also claims she is interested in a 150 year, life span bridge, yet, she designs a bridge with FIU that last 2 days after cracking is reported?
Linda Figg, claims redundancy is so important yet shows and states how she circumvents this redundancy with experimental products… that are not proven!
Could this FIU bridge, simply be one of her experiments and lack of concern for public safety?
Linda Figg, actually talks about redundancy in a bridge design, then clearly states how she experiments with that factor in BRIDGE DESIGNS that ARE BEING USED BY THE PUBLIC!
I would love to know what “studies” if any were to be associated with this FIU bridge?
That study question, includes studies that would be “declared AFTER the bridge was completed ” (as that is how some “secrete studies” are done… they wait for the structure to be 100% complete then a “study” “pops-up” and “replacement study parts” are installed!!! (Actually using federally backed grant money)…as was the case in the experiment Linda Figg mentions in video!)…
Finally, I attacked all the men previously and no history of anyone speaking up for men…So, I don’t want to hear I am attacking Linda Figg for being female…
Even though her company, and her mission statement she is part of, clearly EXCLUDES MEN…
I love woman and will not attack anyone based on sex!
Data is data and tough if you cannot handle data…

Wright's Guggenheim Museum reinforced concrete structure detailing on display when I went to college in 1960 as compared to Linda Figg's description of what she did to her bridge engineering as if an abstract painting that Picasso hated so much ! Well, they are all called art. But it is a difference of heaven and hell to me ! George Wu, ARCHITECT, AIA, NCARB 2018-6-14
Attn Linda Figg and every SJW at MCM: You should be locked up for 20 years and forfeit every asset you have every acquired throughout the course of your life for Misrepresenting your Qualifications to design that death trap bridge. "Me Too" People like you are the problem that will keep America from being Great Again. The voices of the dead souls are crying out for your soul to be sent to the Outer Darkness for Eternity so you can reflect on your willful complicity in the deaths of those souls who you and MCM have victimized.
One of the biggest challenges in engineering is to stop mistakes being repeated. There has to be a lessons learned list and everyone on the team has to be made to read it.
Its that social justice convergence and the politically correct religion. Its a highly divisive ideology. Linda Figg was spreading the propaganda and she is in a position of influence. The question is how much was she displacing the competent replacing them with social justice types? This is very hard to know. If they never are able to figure out what happened then count this as another social justice corruption?
I have seen heavily converged organizations and it is usually marked by stagnation, they cant seem to get anything actually done, always wanting more and more resources. Social justice types don't work or build. They would not pioneer or create new construction techniques. What I can believe there was practically no communication between engineering and construction crews and pushing political correctness made things worse.
Quick, close the bridge in Maine!
Sustainability doesn't mean that the bridge won't fall, but that all of the rubble can be recycled.
She said it could last 150 years… or 150 hours, give or take a little, but at least it looked pretty.
She is in for the participation trophy award in ABC (Accelerated Bridge Collapse).
redundancy redundancy redundancy yeah right that's why they use rebar that's not even coated. We don't have to worry about them building bridges anymore. it is funny how she mentioned a bridge can last hundred and fifty years, yet this one didn't even get finished or if it did get finished probably wouldn't have lasted five years. No commercials in this one. good job
Weird that she has not achieved the PE qualification.
Any reason why the embedded steel used in the FIU bridge was not epoxy coated if corrosion resistance was one of their aims? Do they claim the high compression of the concrete they were looking to achieve would prevent water and salt intrusion? Or is this just more of the inept design many suspect?
It is not about feminism or masculism it is about competence.
Please read the comments above, located in video description (if, you did not defend Denny Pate, you can't defend Linda Figg, or you are a sexiest and man hater)…
Be amazed how Linda Figg states she uses the public for her experimental zone… Makes you wonder if this bridge was just an experiment and who the hell approved this experiment in Maine!? and then this would also explain perhaps this ''experiment'' in this FIU incident! ???

11:25 lie on her part (11:40 "Well we are not really using it for strength.") here is a partial screenshot, showing it IS STRUCTURAL https://ibb.co/kmOnDJ
Link to video, reddit could make some redundancy memes there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M66aRdIVmUI
her linked in https://www.linkedin.com/in/linda-figg-68b37a6 , does that degree mean she's an engineer? she uses no letters behind her name, just wondering
What do you think that registered trade mark of "Creating Bridges As Art" is worth, maybe a lot as this was never used as a walking bridge but still made it as "Art" LOL and so not LOL, so sad, here's wishing major jail time for ALL those responsible for the deaths and wasted tax payer money, any guesses as to maximum total lawsuits reguarding this piece of "Art"?

I did find Figg as engineers of record and no surprise according to Florida dbpr no Figg is a registered engineer. Makes me very worried about the I-35W bridge.
I think we should send her a beautiful framed picture of the victims she can hang in her office.
Less ego, more caution.
"MARKETING"… (how does that work, Figg marketing products)… Heck, did they decide cable stay bridges are useless? Is redundancy decided to be useless and a waste of energy? Just saying…
Her father's coat tails, she is riding on… she is not a PE… she needs a PE to get any plans approved… All these years and she has never taken the PE or rather passed?

@lord of the wood that is my experience also but I had to hire a PE once. That guy used degrees for wallpaper
By far, this is Zee best video and laugh of the day for all the anonymous hard working practical designers and engineers. We are not famous, we don't earn any awards, but we design to save lives, we stand behind and underneath our designs just to go home to our families at the end of the day and feel peace, confidence known we did good job.
I'm an electrical engineer but if I remember my mechanics of materials class in college correctly, the factor of safety for structures should be between 5 and 7. This design clearly did not have any where near that. This design is a trestle and not a suspension bridge with only one center section for support. By the design itself the factor of safety is 1. Am I wrong?
point of fact: cables are abraded wire of some 5 to 6 mm each. So redundancy is possible with a higher load capacity. THE FUI bridge had a 'one point of failer'. She lies very easily. Fibre reinforced polymer (plastic sticks chopped and mixed into the concrete). It has been rejected in many countries outside the UK as it only prevents surface cracks, It does not act like carbon fibre as concrete behaves differently. She has no clue. I would have asked her ok explain how that adds structural strength. Would it be a miracle and overnight we could get rid of RC rebar? All bollox as no one called her out on it.
They all pushed hard for a lean bridge that looked great and skirted the edge of safety. In my time bridges had safety factors built in. What happens…engineers even add there own safety to ensure safety.
wow…if this goes to a court room i hope they source all the info youve brought up
Ah, the thing that bothered me about tension cables has crystalized in my mind – it took a while, I know. If you have no spreader-plate, the thing applying tension to the cable end will act like a wedge, trying to split the concrete apart. Those spreader plates need to be large to
compress as much concrete as possible. If they're small (as it appears to me they are), then some concrete will be compressed and some pushed aside (causing cracking!). The concrete isn't consistently strong throughout – it's got strong bits between weak bits.
Did Linda Figg decide redundancy is just stupid after running her experiments?
Then she decided to just remove that factor all together?
Who needs cables? They are just stupid, and the thickness
if bridges are way over rated, let's just thin that out also!
Wait, let's keep the cost up though…(just a thought I am sharing)

Hmmmm. The key feature that makes a thing an experiment is that you observe it. You cannot observe individual strands of cables buried in concrete.
Here's a thought experiment. To test the strength of a piece of string, I take a piece of string and hang more and more weight on it until it breaks.
Next I repeat the experiment but run a piece of thread alongside the string. Have I a)added redundancy, and b) strength to the string?
It seems to me, it depends on the length and elasticity of the thread.
[Assuming the thread is weaker and less elastic than the string…]
If the thread is short, it'll break first – long before the string. a) no, b)no
If the thread is long, it takes no load until the string breaks, then it breaks. a)no, b)no
If the thread is the perfect length, such that it starts taking load when the string is about to break, then yes, I think the combination could be stronger than the string alone. a)no, b)yes.
But to know it, one must do it, and observe.
I don't think she knows the definition of redundant.
You are so right. Redundancy? Not in the FIU bridge. Clueless Marketing hogwash has colored the whole endevor.
How the hell can she claim that they can gain experience from using a new type cable that sits in concrete (grouted) inside a bridge!? I don't know but i would assume a post tensioning cable never will be exposed to the elements again after being installed unless the case of a catastrophic failure of the construction?
I don't understand. Is she saying that those experimental things have been tested however engineers test things and they were approved for use in bridges or is she saying that she tests them in bridges first? When engineers design bridges don't they have to get the designs approved and have to tell any extra things they put in like these experimental things?
Great job on all these videos, been following from day 1
IMHO, the best on YouTube.

Interesting footage! Its never a good sign when the head of a company places media strategy ahead of sound principles. Reputations take years to develop, and can be destroyed in an instant, and the higher the profile, the bigger the loss.
IMO this company will not survive the lawsuits and loss of confidence, even if they only build parking lots for the next decade…
I must apologize.
My reference to the Oregon State University’s Beaver mascot may have triggered some of the feminists in the comment section.
I will say, in my defense, that my girlfriend of 3 years during college and I were the top two graduates in Engineering Physics in 1980 from Oregon State University. Competitiveness and the mysteries of love broke us apart in our Senior year.
She did fantastic in her career in Materials Science and so did I, in Medicine.
She received no special treatment because she was female.
No feminism required.
She had a Sister who became an OB-GYN MD. And another who became an Optometrist.
Sorry that doesn’t fit in the social justice warrior paradigm about women in the STEM fields.
If women want to do it?
They will.
No need to exclude more qualified people or force women into fields of study they have neither a passion, inclination or aptitude for.
There was no patriarchy in Engineering then, and there isn’t now.
I must say that we had no courses in the aesthetics of engineering.
Although it was an accepted principle at the time that things that looked right usually performed best.
But. Calculations and real Engineering still needed to be done.
‘Nuff said.
MM
The woman decided to place aesthetics over safety. They could have designed a more functional, stronger and less expensive bridge. Instead they designed this contraption that looked like a suspended bridge, but wasn't. They used new materials and techniques that they had no experience with. There was no redundancy, the structure should have remained in place even if some of the structural members had been damaged. I guess she forgot to act like an engineer and acted more like an interior ( or exterior) designer.
