Bio data:
Graduated from University of Ceylon, Peradeniya as a civil engineer, Rohan Bandarage qualified in Health, Safety & Environment with a Master’s degree from Curtin University of Western Australia in 2001. He is a certified lead auditor and has served SAI Global & Bureau Veritas international certification bodies. He is currently engaged by Chevron Australia on the $60b Gorgon Oil & Gas Construction Project as the lead auditor and subject matter expert of the Contractor Health, Environment and Safety Management (CHESM) Program. In his career, he has published papers, lectured at University of WA and had performed health and safety conformity assessments of over 2000 workplaces in the Australasian region.
Abstract :
Australia’s improved workplace safety performance is attributable to the creation of a positive safety culture. The presentation is about current initiatives and methodologies adopted in Australia to create the right environment and the right mindset to eliminate workplace injury and illness, predominantly in the construction industry. Possible applications for the Sri Lankan workplace and lessons to be learned are included.
