Former head of OSHA, Eula Bingham, reflects on her decades in the industry, and her hopes for the future generations of safety and health professionals.
Sadly, this administration proposed yesterday to eliminate the $10 million OSHA Harwood Training grant program (the blog, Confined Space, has details). Hundreds of health and safety activists (including me) started under this or an earlier program, called New Directions, begun in 1978.Today’s video has former OSHA head Eula Bingham, who started the program during the Carter administration, recalling how the New Direction’s program began (at minutes 8 -11). In the entire video, from the wonderful safety organization, CPWR, Dr. Bingham reflects on her decades in the industry, and her hopes for the future generations of safety and health professionals. Take the time to listen to Dr. Bingham, one of the elders of workplace health and safety in the United States. OSHA awards small grants to nonprofit organizations on a competitive basis to provide training and education programs for employers and workers on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces and to inform workers of their rights and employers of their responsibilities under the OSHA
