This saw has nearly single-handedly reshaped construction, especially framing and forming processes. Here are some tips I have picked up over the last 40 years. I do not recommend you try these, I’m simply sharing for informational and entertainment purposes.
This is the saw I use and recommend. (Affiliate)

may not affect it structurally, but you are leaving it more susceptible to rot and insects etc.
thank you for this video
Over 1.5 million views !! wow
Amazing presentations, most articulate speaker ever, awesome skills
Great video! Very cool! I cut the cord on mine the first time I used it.
For that six by six get a beam saw
True all guys style, thanks for the tips ,l will definitely use them
To be honest, I see no virtue in cutting a board freehand when you already have a notch to locate your Skilsaw. You just place the saw in the notch, place your speed square against the saw table and you cut without having to eyeball … simples.
And this becomes even more valid the wider the board is.
That said, I take my hat off to Essential Craftsman, he is one highly skilled dude.
Super hack
Been doing carpentry for almost 40 years and still learned a few things from this video. Really enjoyed watching. One comment — the saw Scott is using is a worm drive skil saw, which has a lot different feel and balance than a direct drive "sidewinder" skil saw (what most folks probably have nowadays). Pros swear by worm drive saws, and in fact the original skil saw from the 1920s was worm drive. The worm drive saw gives you more control to steer the saw and resist kickback, and makes advanced use quite a bit easier in my opinion. Sidewinders weigh less and are more compact, which may be helpful in some situations, but overall, if you want to be a saw jedi like Scott, worm drive is a key part of that.
Just saved me (rookie) 75% of time cutting gussets out of plywood. Just did one strip outline, stacked four sheets, and cut away. 36 gussets. Bam!
Excellent video. Truly an expert craftsman in action. He puts the skill in skilsaw
Some of these practices beg for a lost digit or three. My God, so unsafe!
Your awesome.. Glad i ran across your video. Now Ima see what else ya got, lol
Mr. Essential Craftsman,
What gauge wire is your 40ft cord?
Of course I could put a 14AWG cord on my Skilsaw, because that's what the factory 8' cord is. However, extending the cord to 40' or 50' (like you did) creates more resistance. I'd like to put a 12AWG cord on my Skilsaw for this reason, but don't know if it'd fit in the handle?
Gold hands!
8:00 The "Polish plane." I love it.
