The Story of OSHA (1980)
This film tells workers how OSHA was set up to stem the tide of disease, injury, and death, and what their rights are under the law. Explains how NIOSH conducts tests, how standards are set, and how OSHA investigates complaints. Produced and distributed by OSHA in 1980. Then in 1981, the incoming head of OSHA Thorne Auchter recalled and destroyed most copies. A few copies were kept alive by renegade union officials who refused to return their copies. The penalty for being discovered in possession of one of these films was loosing all OSHA funding for their safety and health programs.
This film was preserved through the years through the efforts of Mark Catlin, who made this and other censored OSHA films available for digitizing.

One of the benefits of being an old fart is that I remember when OSHA came into existence. In the beginning, they did a lot of good by addressing negligence, abuse, and unsafe working conditions.
When Reagan and his anti-Labor flying monkeys took over, OSHA changed from protecting workers, to becoming a regulatory predator by harassing employers for petty bullshit violations. Reaganomics changed how regulatory agencies were funded. Instead of having a socially beneficial mission, and being funded to carry it out, they were forced to shake down companies to make up for funding shortfalls. EPA is the most tyrannical and gives the IRS a run for its money in who can terrorize We Teh Sheep.

Great video…However it was very upsetting to see that OSHA and whatever other agencies involved allowed testing at the expense of sentient and innocent creatures. Humanity or should I say non-humanity is very cruel and egotistic. To think that animal testing like this and worse is STILL happening to so many innocent creatures breaks my heart.

"yet none of the workers bothered to wear respirators. Nobody thought it was important (above post)"
    Who's fault was it really?

In April 2009, my father died of Mesothelioma from exposure to asbestos. He worked in a shipyard for 20+ years and they could see the visible asbestos fibers in the air.. yet none of the workers bothered to wear respirators. Nobody thought it was important, the employer certainly didn't care. This came back to haunt him as terminal cancer 40 years later.
Too bad OSHA wasn't around at Newport News Shipbuilding back then. I might still have my father alive.

instead of protecting the employee, they make it very difficult to be productive,as though the economic worries werent enough osha has stressed out the worker beyond and above, what started out as a great idea its been capitalized to help keep this privatized office(no longer governmet controlled)open and running, more at the expense of the worker rather than the employer
